I am a fan of having pets fully integrated into my household, and I love decorating books and magazines. Because of this, I decided to do a book review for a book I just read: Cool Dogs Cool Homes, Living in Style with Your Dog Written by Geraldine James with Photography by James Gardiner.
The homes are all in England from London to the coast. The book shows how you can live quite stylishly while having all the paraphernalia you need to have a happy dog. Several of the dogs are rescues and one house has 5 rescue dogs living quite happily in their country home in West Sussex, in a home that dates back to the 1700’s. Their owner Nikki Tibbles started Wild At Heart Foundation, that funds global projects to reduce the world’s 600 million stray dogs. It is so inspirational to see how others incorporate having theirs pets in their homes. I also love learning about all the dogs who have been rescued and now get to live in such beautiful forever homes.
One of the homes is owned by a designer that has beautifully appointed their home over 20 years. Another home is owned by a store owner and product designer who have created a wonderful mix of North African Culture and Mid Century Modern. The blend of the styles make a stunning home. As a lover of the bohemian style my mind was full of ideas of how to incorporate some of the looks into my own home.
One couple and their cocker spaniels live in a restored Pub filled with fun eclectic furnishings. There is a Historic Manor Home and a wonderful home by a marina that allows their dog to enjoy a daily swim. A Standard Poodle lives in a restored barn. And so many others that are beautiful and yet inviting and comfortable not only for the families, but for the four-legged members of their families. The pub had some many unique and interesting finds. It looks like a very fun place to live.
The photography is stunning and seeing all the homes and ways people incorporate their dogs makes it a fun book to sit on the couch and read with a dog or two curled up next to you. I hope I have piqued your interest by taking some time to enjoy a beautiful book and learning a bit about rescue dogs and how they are enjoying their forever homes. Having a truly beautiful home that is unique to your interests and style and filling it with pets to all live together is something I desire, and this book really showed my just how possible that is.
It is available on Amazon and in bookstores.
You are asleep in bed when you hear that gagging, coughing noise that causes you to jump out of bed to try to get your dog or cat outside to safely vomit away from your carpet. But, you are just not fast enough and now you have vomit on the carpet or worse yet the bed, couch or any other surface.
Finally, the world feels like it is opening back up. Now you have to go back to an office rather than work from home and getting your pets back into the routine has some challenges you may have to overcome.
Some pets will have separation anxiety and it has several possible symptoms. Here are some of the most common.
